A house that became a home

About Sarvodaya Garima Greh.

Implemented by Sarvodaya Women Welfare Society, our Garima Greh in Daminedu, Tirupati, offers transgender persons a place of safety, dignity and growth.

Sarvodaya Garima Greh is a residential shelter home for transgender persons in Tirupati, run by Sarvodaya Women Welfare Society under the Garima Greh scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

Who we are

Sarvodaya Women Welfare Society is a registered non-profit serving the social welfare needs of vulnerable communities in Andhra Pradesh since 2003. We work across the areas of senior-citizen welfare, women’s empowerment and the rights of marginalised groups — and we are the implementing organisation for this Garima Greh shelter home.

Where we are

The Garima Greh shelter is located at:

  • Block No. 3, Indiramma Housing Society, Daminedu, Tirupati District, Tirupati – 517503.

Our main administrative branch is at:

  • Sarvodaya Women Welfare Society, 16-13 Munireddy Nagar, Tirupati – 517502.

A Garima Greh is not just a building — it is a promise that no transgender person in our community has to face the night alone.

Our approach

We follow four guiding values in everything we do at the Garima Greh:

  • Consent. No resident is forced into any programme — counselling, skill training and medical care are all opt-in and respectful.
  • Affirmation. We use each resident’s chosen name, pronouns and identity.
  • Confidentiality. Personal stories stay within the home unless the resident chooses otherwise.
  • Dignity. Uniform house rules apply equally — no resident is “more deserving” than another.

The team

Our team includes house wardens, counsellors, a visiting medical officer, skill-training mentors and support staff. Many of our team members are themselves from the transgender community — ensuring our home is led by lived experience as much as by qualification.

We work closely with the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, the State Government, local hospitals, the police and community-based organisations to keep residents safe and supported.

Partner with our Garima Greh.

We welcome NGOs, healthcare providers, employers and well-wishers to join hands for dignity.
